  1. A Distinguished Fellow is chosen for their significant, long-lasting contribution to the field of addiction psychiatry. They are recognized for their expertise and strong record of accomplishment to the association and field. These areas may include volunteerism, medical practice, education, research, and leadership.  

    The criteria to be considered a Distinguished Fellow includes:

    1. An AAAP Member for at least 8 years
    2. Certified in Psychiatry by ABPN
    3. Given significant service to AAAP (at least 3 of the following 7)
      1. Served as Chair/Co-Chair of an AAAP committee, SIG, or editor of AJA or the AAAP newsletter. 
      2. Served at least one terms on the Board of Directors
      3. Authored at least 3 publications in the AJA and at least one article in the AAAP Newsletter
      4. Presented for at least two AAAP meetings (i.e., Annual Meetings and Preconference Workshops)
      5. Mentor three or more trainees through the AAAP mentorship program
      6. Recipient of a AAAP award, including Travel, Education, Research, Founders’ or Early Career.
      7. Provided significant clinical contributions through AAAP grants or educational initiatives, such as course director, developing a PIP, Visiting Scholar, ORN consultant or physician champion, PCSS mentor or self-assessment questions.
    4. Contributed to the field of addiction (at least 2 of the following 4)
      1. Made teaching contributions related to addiction psychiatry in a medical school, residency, or fellowship program for at least 8 years
      2. Published in multiple peer-review journals, books, or chapters of books on addiction topics.
      3. Recognized by other professional societies for contributions to the field, such as AMA, APA, AMERSA.
      4. Participation in non-compensated services for substance use and mental health disorders.
    5. Submit a (one) letter of endorsement from a member of AAAP. 
    6. Submit an application detailing your eligibility.

    You may use this honorary title throughout your continued membership with the AAAP.

    Applications may be submitted annually from January 1st through March 31st.
