Petros Levounis, MD, MA


Petros Levounis, MD, MA Serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. a Phi Beta Kappa Graduate of Stanford University, He Studied Chemistry and Biophysics before Receiving His Medical Education at Stanford and the Medical College of Pennsylvania. He Trained in Psychiatry at Columbia University and Further Specialized in Addiction Psychiatry at Nyu. Dr. Levounis Served as Director of the Addiction Institute of New York from 2002 to 2013 and, in 2017, Was Elected as an Honorary Member of the World Psychiatric Association. Dr. Levounis Has Published 14 Books including the Textbook of “Substance Dependence and Co-Occurring Psychiatric Disorders,” “Sober Siblings,” “Motivational Interviewing,” “Buprenorphine and the Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder,” “LGBTQ Mental Health: The Spectrum of Gender and Sexuality” and “Technological Addictions.” His Books Have Been Translated into French, German, Hungarian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish. Dr. Levounis is Married to Actor Lukas Hassel and Lives in New York City.

Diego Garces Grosse, MD.  is Chief Resident in Rutgers - New Jersey Medical School Psychiatry Program. He Has a Passion for knowledge, and This Translates into His Enthusiasm Teaching and Education. He Wants to Pursue a Career in Consult-Liaison psychiatry, Integrating Neurosciences and Medical Knowledge into His Psychiatric Practice. He Has a Particular Interest in Psychopharmacology and Its Interactions with Medical Conditions. He Was Selected as One of the NNCI Scholars of 2020 and Recently Awarded the APA Diversity Leadership Fellowship.
