Pdf Summary
Psychedelic-assisted therapy has shown promise in treating substance use disorders (SUD) by inducing neuroplasticity, altering brain network connectivity, and enhancing emotion processing. They may also modulate reward and stress processing, increase social connectedness, and elicit subjective experiences that enhance motivation for change. Combining psychedelics with psychotherapeutic approaches, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, can optimize treatment outcomes. Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) can be used to measure brain connectivity as a predictive biomarker for treatment success. More research is needed to determine optimal doses and timing of interventions. Overall, psychedelic-assisted therapy has the potential to be an effective evidence-based treatment for SUD.
