Pdf Summary
This study examined the implementation of structural competency in addiction psychiatry education for medical students. The researchers conducted a survey after a seminar to assess the students' perspectives on the relevance of the information presented and its impact on their preparedness to engage with patients and families about addiction treatment options.

The results showed that the majority of respondents (60%) strongly agreed and 35% agreed that the information presented was new and relevant to their profession. In addition, 40% strongly agreed, 50% agreed, and 10% were neutral when asked if they felt better prepared to engage with patients and families about addiction treatment options after the seminar.

Furthermore, 60% strongly agreed and 35% agreed that the presentation motivated them to pursue further learning on structural competency. When asked if they would recommend the seminar to fellow students, 75% strongly agreed, 20% agreed, and 5% were neutral.

The study concluded that integrating structural competency training into medical school curricula can enhance students' perceived comfort in addressing complex issues related to addiction treatment. It also emphasized the importance of continued structural competency training in psychiatric undergraduate medical education to produce more informed physicians in substance use treatment.

The limitations of the study include a small sample size and the absence of community players, while its strengths lie in its novelty as an educational intervention and the strong positive response received. The findings highlight the need for further research in this area.

In summary, this study demonstrated the benefits of incorporating structural competency into addiction psychiatry education for medical students. The results indicated that students found the information presented to be new and relevant to their profession, felt better prepared to engage with patients and families, and were motivated to pursue further learning. These findings underscore the importance of ongoing structural competency training to ensure well-informed physicians in substance use treatment.
