Pdf Summary
Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid drug, has caused havoc in the United States, impacting millions of Americans. It is approximately 100 times more potent than morphine and 50 times more potent than heroin, and its use as a street drug has contributed to the increase in overdoses. The opioid use disorder (OUD) crisis is a significant medical and public health issue in both New Jersey and the United States as a whole, with 2.7 million people reported to have OUD in 2020.

The study collected retrospective data from the EPIC database, with data provided by the HMH Data Analytics Team. The most common primary and secondary diagnosis was opioid-related disorders. Of the patients, 85.18% did not require intensive care unit (ICU) treatment, while 14.82% did. The mean length of stay in the ICU was 4.3, with a median of 2.5 and a mode of 1.2. The range of lengths of stay was 0.01 to 69.32, with a standard deviation of 5.33. There were 874 deaths, accounting for 8.34% of the total.

The study included patients from various hospital locations, with HUMC-3104 representing 29.6% of the patients and JSUMC-1861 representing 17.8%. Other locations include Riverview Medical Center, JFK UMC, Southern Ocean Medical Center, and OUMC, with varying percentages. The most common units among the patients were Behavioral Health, MED/SURG, and Cardiac.

The study population consisted of a total of 10,476 patients. Several variables were analyzed, but they are not specified in the given text.
