This study examined the content of posts on Facebook and Twitter related to methamphetamine use disorder and addiction. A total of 37 posts were identified on Facebook, with 65% containing educational material and 35% containing non-educational material. Of these posts, 30% were written by professional users and 70% were written by non-professional users.<br /><br />On Twitter, a total of 158 tweets were identified, with 55% containing educational material and 45% containing non-educational material. Of these tweets, 27% were written by professional users and 73% were written by non-professional users. Notably, 21.6% of the tweets linked a scientific article or journal.<br /><br />There were no significant differences in the proportion of posts containing educational vs. non-educational material or those written by professional vs. non-professional users between Facebook and Twitter.<br /><br />The study highlights the need for more professionals in the field of mental health and medicine to provide accurate and reliable information on social media platforms. With the increasing popularity of platforms like TikTok, it is important for addiction psychiatrists to take responsibility for providing evidence-based information to patients.<br /><br />Overall, as social media platforms continue to play a central role in people's lives, it is important to address substance use disorders and addiction in these digital communities and ensure the availability of reliable information.
