Pdf Summary
The goal of the study is to develop a lecture series aimed at educating psychiatry residents and child and adolescent psychiatry fellows about cannabis use disorder in children and adolescents. The prevalence of cannabis use disorder is high, particularly in the Bronx borough of New York City. The study consists of three lectures and a workshop on motivational enhancement training. The first lecture focuses on recognizing cannabis use disorder, including its signs, symptoms, and neurobiological pathology. The second lecture covers the management of cannabis use disorder, including psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic approaches, as well as family and community-based interventions. The third lecture discusses the topic of legalization, including the differences between medical and recreational marijuana, the laws surrounding marijuana, and the risks and benefits associated with legalization. The workshop on motivational enhancement therapy aims to teach attendees the basic steps of this therapy and how to conduct a session. The study received positive feedback from the participants, indicating its effectiveness in bridging knowledge gaps related to cannabis use disorder. The resources used for the study include various publications and policy statements that provide information on the treatment and effects of cannabis use disorder in adolescents. Overall, the study suggests that the module on cannabis use disorder is beneficial for improving recognition and management of the disorder among psychiatry residents and fellows.
