Pdf Summary
This study evaluated alcohol consumption among adults in Oklahoma during the COVID-19 pandemic. The statistical analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS Version 27, and the chi-square test of independence was performed. The analysis was weighted based on participants' drinking patterns of more than six drinks on one occasion. The study included 137 participants.

The results showed that 51 participants reported consuming more than six drinks on one occasion at least less than monthly. Among these participants, 7 reported harming themselves or another person, with 3 of these incidents occurring over a year ago and 4 happening within the past year. Additionally, 12 of the 51 participants mentioned being advised by a friend, family member, or healthcare provider to reduce their alcohol intake. Of these 12 respondents, 5 received the advice over a year ago, and 7 were advised within the past year.

Based on the findings, the study provides guidance for healthcare providers in addressing risky alcohol consumption, particularly the consumption of more than six alcoholic drinks on one occasion. The data showed that 37% of the participants in the study had consumed more than six drinks on at least one occasion in the past year.

Excessive alcohol use is a significant contributor to premature mortality in the United States, with an estimated 88,000 alcohol-related deaths occurring annually. Unhealthy alcohol consumption has been associated with increased health risks. This study also considered the potential impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on alcohol intake, as a previous outbreak in China had led to increased addictive internet and substance use behavior.

The research employed a non-probability convenience sampling method, including adults aged 18 and older living in Oklahoma. The participants completed an electronic, anonymous survey that included the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). The AUDIT is a validated screening tool commonly used by healthcare providers to assess unhealthy alcohol use.

Overall, this study sheds light on alcohol consumption patterns during the COVID-19 pandemic among adults in Oklahoma and emphasizes the need for healthcare providers to address risky alcohol consumption.
